Weekend Weather - click the link opposite for a detailed forecast.
A mixed forecast for the weekend. Saturday looks like being overcast with the risk of rain. The winds are forecast to be F5 SE on Saturday, dropping to F2-3 E on Sunday. Sunday should be a brighter day and dry with some clear periods. Next week there are some strong winds forecast for Monday through to Wednesday so make sure your lines, fenders and covers are all secure this weekend.
London Boat Show
It is the last weekend of the boat show. Our Assistant Manager Hugh was there this week and said it was a good day out. We had a royal visitor to our stand when Princess Anne stopped for a chat with our MD Simon Haigh. If you are in London then Quay Marinas are at the Which Marina? stand run by The Yacht Harbour Association.
For Sale - Sally Ann
You have probably seen the large wooden vessel moored against the wall in the Outer Basin. It is now being put on the market by its current owner who hasn't the time to complete his project. It does need work. However it sailed here and is a runner. The owner is asking £25,000 but is open to offers. The vessel is very spacious inside and would be a great house boat. One condition of the sale is that the boat must be removed from Penarth Marina. If you know anyone who may be interested please give me a call at the marina office.
Recreation Craft Approaching Bristol and Portishead
Bristol Port Company produce a very useful guide on navigating in the upper reaches of the Bristol Channel. Please follow this link to view :https://www.bristolport.co.uk/marine-documentation/marine-service/recreational-craft-navigation-guidelines
Unfortunately our new handbooks still haven't arrived. However they should be with us next week and each current berth holder will also have a copy sent to their home address.
Notices to Mariners
No. 20 of 2017 – Dredging works in Cardiff Bay Barrage Outer Harbour and approach channel
Beginning on or around Saturday 6th January 2018, for approximately 2 weeks, the dredging vessel MV Sospan Dau and support vessel MV Kamsar or Avanti C will be carrying out dredging works in Cardiff Bay Barrage Outer Harbour and the approach channel. The vessels will display lights and shapes in accordance with the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea and will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channels 16, 18 and 68. On or around Wednesday 3rd January 2018, the outer Port Hand Lateral mark and the Preferred Channel Marker Buoy (RGR) will be moved approximately 20 metres out from their normal positions on the edge of the channel. The two inner lateral marks will be removed for maintenance. All other static aids to navigation marking the approach channel will remain operational. Vessels wishing to enter or leave Cardiff Bay should contact Barrage Control on VHF Channel 18 and await instructions before entering the Outer Harbour. Vessels should also navigate with caution in the approach channel for the duration of the dredging works and whilst the buoyage is off station.
No 19 of 2017 – Cardiff Barrage Lock 3 Closure – Preventative Maintenance
Mariners are advised that Cardiff Bay Barrage Lock 3 will be closed for preventative maintenance from Monday 27 November 2017 until mid January 2018.
Locks 1 and 2 are unaffected by the work, and will remain in normal operation throughout. However, mariners should be aware that tidal conditions can restrict Lock 1, the outer sill of which is at +2.3m Chart Datum (-4m Above Ordnance Datum).
When tidal restrictions coincide with operationally busy periods, delays may be experienced with the locking procedure. Mariners are requested to take note of these delays when passage planning.
For full details and updated Notices to Mariners, please see the boards in the Marina Office or check the following links. Avonmouth Shipping, Bristol Harbour, Cardiff Harbour
If you have any queries please contact the Marina Office which is manned 24/7.
Have a great weekend.
